This little database application can be quickly modified to be a lookup for any language you want - all you need to do is substitute the appropriate list into this script. This 87k "dictionary" database consists only of a few more than 12,000 words, so it is certainly not comprehensive, but useful none-the-less, and a excellent example of the utility of client-side databases. Special German characters (Ä, ä, Ö, ö, Ü, ü and ß) are rendered using HTML entities rather than unicode, which would require special fonts and extra overhead. We've provided a special onscreen "keyboard" to "type" these special characters when performing German to English searches. Note: These special characters are represented in the form element by substitute characters until the word search is initiated. |
