One solution to overly large file sizes of QuickTime® movies is to make the images displayed very small. But even with small images, the file can easily reach a megabyte or more. For comparison to the pseudo-QT movie below, a real QuickTime® Movie (but one which needs a full 250k of data for a skimpy 38 seconds and smaller images) may be seen by clicking here. Another approach is provided here. The one-minute movie below requires only about 75k with very large images. In this example, JPEG files were saved using the Storm Technologies, Inc.® Adobe Photoshop® plugin to reduce the image files from 75% to 90% from the original size, yet preserving a large image with fairly acceptable clarity, i.e. not too many artifacts created by the extreme compression. (Other application packages to compress JPEG files can be found at the shareware download sites) The 15 images in the movie below average from 5k to 8k byte size despite being 360 by 300 pixels in display size. Instrumental music is provided using a very small (in byte size) MIDI files - in this demo, the five different tunes range from 5k to 10k. Because it is a pseudo-movie, we can also change the tune with each viewing, as well. Click the start button below to see how you might use this approach...
